Shaft couplings join two shafts together to transmit rotary motion from one shaft to the other. They include elastomeric flexible couplings and fluid couplings.
- Elastomeric flexible couplings compensate for shaft misalignment and deformation and do not require lubrication. These couplings are made of elastic polymers. They are available in varying types such as jaw and tire.
- Fluid couplings (hydraulic couplings) use hydraulic fluid to transmit rotational power between shafts. These couplings accelerate and decelerate low-viscosity hydraulic fluid to increase velocity and create kinetic energy. They also dampen vibration and protect against overload. Fluid coupling parts include collets, which provide a tight fit onto shafts and reduce vibration.
